Denfield Park Primary School

Learning and Growing Together

Humanities

Humanities at Denfield Park

At Denfield we aim to ensure a clear progression of knowledge and skills as the children progress through the school. We also aim to create independent learners who can research, find answers and who take increased ownership of their learning journey. The teaching of Humanities will develop the children's curiosity and fascination for the world we live in and coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world.

Geography

By the end of Key Stage 2 children should have a good knowledge about places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a clear understanding of the earth’s key physical and human processes. They will be able to use key vocabulary to compare and contrast environmental examples, explain any changes and provide reasons for change.

History

By the end of Key Stage 2 children will have a good understanding of how the human desire to improve, progress and bring about change has impacted on our past and therefore in our present. They will be able to use key vocabulary to compare and contrast examples from across their studies, demonstrating a good understanding of chronology. They will also be able to state changes over time, discussing why this might be. This understanding will be based on good historical evidence and knowledge.
