Every fortnight we will also be setting a written homework task in homework books to revise work that we have been doing in school. This will be set on a Thursday and expected to be completed by the following Wednesday.
Children will be set each Tuesday to the children. These can be found in your child's Reading Record. Please encourage and support your child to learn these. We try to teach spelling patterns to children that they can apply to a range of words. Some weeks children will be set 'words to watch out for' which are common exception words. The new National Curriculum expectations for spelling are very challenging.
We recognise our 'Spelling Superstars' - children who get all their spellings correct or make good progress with their weekly spellings. Children collect stars for their special spelling bookmarks. Towards the end of terms 2, 4 and 6 children will take part in a spelling challenge with a mixture of spellings from the term. Children who show great improvement will be sent a postcard home to celebrate their achievement.
We recommend that all children read at least 3 times every week. We encourage children to try and read a wide range of books. We reward children for their reading at home with our Reading Miles. You can find your child's Reading Miles chart in their Reading Record. Using their Reading Miles children are able to choose from a variety of prizes.
Bug Club/Grammar and Spelling Bug:
Through Active Learn children can access Bug Club. We will allocate children different books which they can read at their own leisure and answer a range of questions about what they have read. Tasks may also be set through grammar and spelling bug. This will be to consolidate any work we have completed in class. Your help, support and encouragement is very much appreciated and makes a real difference to your child's learning.
